The Beginning of MAG

A few years ago I decided to give writing a chance. I have always desired to create my own franchise and world. While going through chemo I had nothing to do but rest, so I began to write down notes of possible ideas for a book. I must have come up with ten different ideas before Men Among Gods, and none of them remotely excited me as much as this. I started writing one and even got through the first chapter. It was a story about a world with superheroes and villains. The main character was a man within the most powerful superhero league in this world. The plot was focused on his descent into insanity and how he turned into a villain.  After writing notes for a while, planning out the entire book, and even finishing the first chapter, I had only one thought, “This story sucks.”

With Marvel and DC pumping out superhero movies and shows left and right, the genre has lost its touch. It has become redundant and lifeless. I no longer find myself excited for any of these movies. The world has had enough of the classic “superhero” movie. That being said, creating a story line of this nature was not good enough for me.

After more ideas were thrown away, one small note that I wrote gained my attention. A note about a medieval world where a family obtained godly power. It was broad and had no traction, but I thought about expanding it. The factor that actually sparked light into this idea came from a video game I played called “Elden Ring”.  The part that inspired me was the concept of a powerful family with God-like abilities who turn on each other and send the world into chaos. If one would play this game and read Men Among Gods, they can clearly see that they are very different. However the inspiration did originate from this. The first character I wrote was King Zorick Eldraz, as he is the one of the catalysts behind the story's plot. After him I created his children, many of whom have changed drastically since their first draft. None of these characters are even the main characters of the book, which shows how much more of the world I had to build.

After more time jotting down notes and thinking of where the story was going, I could not help but immensely expand from where the original plot was supposed to end. I even began to become surprised by how issues and plot holes I faced slowly came to come together. More and more explanations and ideas flooded in as time went on, eventually creating the story I will share with everyone soon.

Within this fantasy book I wished to do more than have an ordinary story. I was not satisfied with anything remotely unoriginal.  Along with a great plot and storyline, I wanted the story to represent real problems faced in the world we live in. The main concept I wished to build around was the idea of what we truly control. For we as ordinary people cannot truly understand what really goes on behind closed doors or who is truly in charge of what. If you decide to give this series a chance, and finish the book in its entirety, you will have a better understanding of what I’m talking about. This is more than your ordinary fantasy fiction book. I can confidently say Men Among Gods is unlike anything you’ve read.

Everyone always told me how proud of myself I had to be for finishing school, getting a job, or doing anything that is typically expected of you. Never in my life have I been truly proud of myself for what I have done, for it was just what I expected. But after I finished the last page of book one, I finally truly knew what it meant to be proud of myself. Even if I don’t sell a single copy, I’m proud of the world I created. I now know what it means to have a passion in life, for this is mine. I hope whoever is reading this wishes to go on and give these books a chance, as they are a story unlike any other.
